Do you live on a semi-busy road? Do your kids sometimes forget how close they are to the road? You’re not alone.

Read on for what we did..

Materials:

  • 2” wide PVC
  • 6’ long x 1.5” wide PVC - $10
  • 100’ of ⅜” nylon rope - $10

Total cost: $20 (much better than the $60 ones online)

The previous owner of our house hammered 2” wide PVC into the ground on either side of the driveway. One of the pipes was very slanted, so I took it out & remounted it.

Then I took ½” wide PVC pipe & cut two sections so each one was 3’ long. The ½” PVC fits perfectly inside the 2” wide pipe footers.

I drilled three holes in each pipe all the way through — one at the top, in the middle & near the bottom. Then I fished some ⅜” bright blue nylon rope through each hole & tied a knot. Our kids are pretty responsible so we weren’t so much worried about balls going into the road as we were of them forgetting it’s a road.

The ropes are very taught, so they will hopefully give enough resistance if they ride their bike into it & remind them to stay back.

I hope this helps you figure out a solution to keep your kids safe.
